Lonite is an international company with offices throughout the world. Their laboratory is located in Switzerland where your loved one’s ashes will be sent to be created. Prices start at $1,400 and range to $13,200.

Heart in Diamond is based in the UK and has a US office. Like their competitors, they produce memorial diamonds for both humans and pets, though they focus a little more heavily on the pet market. One of their options (a mini-diamond) is the lowest cost in the business, starting at $750, with other options ranging up to $20,000.

Carbon is removed from the ashes and put through a purification process. It is then subjected to intense pressure (850,000 pounds per square inch) and heated to 2,500 or more degrees Fahrenheit.

 

Over time the pure carbon turns to the hardest element on earth - a diamond.

 

Depending on the diamond size desired, it can take as little as two months or as long as a year to grow the diamond in a company's lab. Seven-months is about average.
